Today the kinds of party games we played as children are proving just a popular with our children and grandchildren today. Every single one of the classic old school party games we played have a certain charm and excitement about them. Plus if you decide to include these at your next party they don’t need a lot doing to prepare for them and of course the great thing is that they can be played by both children and adults.

Below we have a look at what we consider are the more popular kinds of classic old school party games that people still enjoy playing today.

Game 1 – Hot Potato

In order to play this game you need either a small ball, stone or of course a small potato and can be played by no less than 6 people but also by as many as 30. Those who are playing will sit on the floor in a circle facing inwards. You now choose someone to be the leader and they will step into the middle. They close their eyes and as the object you have chosen to act as the potato is passed around they determine when to say “HOT”. As soon as they do say this the person holding it is out. This carries on until there is only one person left and they will be crowned the winner. If you have a large group of friends playing this particular old school party game you could of course split it up into two games if you wish.

Game 2 – Charades

When it comes to looking for a party game that is funny but also exciting then this is a great one to consider. This game can be played by say 10 people or it can be played by 30. Before the game begins you need to divide those playing up into two groups. Then once this has been done the fun can start. One person from each team needs to draw a piece of paper on to which the title of a book, film, TV show or musical has been written then act it out without saying anything to their team members. You can of course ask your guests for some titles or you can just prepare everything yourself before they arrive. The team that guests the most charades performed by their team mates the most is of course the winning team.

Game 3 – Pass The Parcel

This is yet another very popular one of the classic old school party games that we played as kids and which our children still enjoy playing today. To play it is very simple you sit on the floor in a circle and to music you pass round a parcel that is normally wrapped in newspaper. Once the music stops the person who has hold of the parcel at the time is able to unwrap the parcel removing the first layer of paper and retrieving the gift from inside. Once they have done this and the music starts up once again and continues to be passed around and the music stopped until the final prize in the parcel is reached.

When it comes to playing this one of the classic old school party games remember to make sure that who is ever in charge of the music ensures that every child involved in the game has a chance to unwrap the parcel. What you do not want to end up with is unhappy children because they never received a prize.
